It has been a long time since I have heard that statement. I remember that it was used in the days of the Old Priesthood Council and mostly by people who had converted from the church. It may have been a church phrase or one that was for personal justification in leaving what you had, to come join with us. It was also repeated by some of our old brethren themselves but since they were all once part of the church I can see where they might have got it from.
One of the interesting historical facts about so many church groups is that they think that they are the ones with authority(priesthood) and no one else has any. The LDS are sure that they are the only ones with the Priesthood and that the fundamentalists don’t have it. The different Fundamentalist groups believe that they are the only ones with Priesthood and they have lots of testimony to back it up. Secret meetings, ordinations in tongues, callings, visions, and many revelations to support and prove that they are the only ones. Some have holy temples, endless meetings, strange marriages, eternal confrontations, and because of those things they must be the only people with the priesthood. In my view, Christ bestowed the priesthood or authority upon men to do right, be kind, keep the commandments, judge honestly, help the poor and needy, and set an example of light in the earth. There are good people everywhere that do just that and they will be loved of God.
